Skyscrapers define the skyline of North Carolina city Charlote, the "Wall Street of the South", an urban center home also to an assortment of museums, a NASCAR speedway and an artificial whitewater river.
Luna Lake Loop is a pleasant ride that runs along forest back roads through alpine scenery, open grasslands and ranches near Luna Lake and the town of Alpine.
From the trailhead, follow the blue diamond north through the gate to a junction. To the left signed "More Difficult" is the 8 mile loop. Just follow the blue diamonds. At the first you can bear to the right with the sign marked "Easiest" to take an easy 2.5 loop.

To get to the trailhead:
Drive 5 miles east from Alpine on Hwy. 180 and turn left heading north on the Luna Lake Entrance Road. Drive 1 mile on this gravel road and look for the trailhead marked by a bike sign near the campground entrance.
