From the mysterious disappearance of Roanoke settlers to the Wright brothers' first flight, the Outer Banks are historically important yes, but they are also postcard pretty with enough beach to share between summer visitors.
This trail offers an enjoyable hike to the top of Big Frog Mountain. There are panoramic views with a chance to see wildlife in the area. Groups in this area are restricted to a maximum of 12 people. Please observe wilderness rules when visiting this area.
Steepness: Much of the grail has grades of 20% or steeper. Length: Trails are usually more than 8 miles, but short, steep trails may be included. Surface: Trail is most likely rocky, with uneven footing. May include many stream crossings.

Camping is available at Thunder Rock Campground. Visit the Ocoee Whitewater Center, site of the 1996 Olympic Canoe/Kayak competition. It is located on Highway 64, 6 miles west of Ducktown. Many other trails are located within the Big Frog Wilderness. For more recreation opportunities, visit the Ocoee/Hiwassee Ranger Station.
Sight Information: Trail Number 64. Hike 0.5 miles to wilderness boundary.
Site Amenities: Parking area limited to five vehicles. A bulletin board provides trail information.
Safety: Consider wearing hunter orange during hunting season.
Requirements: No motor or mechanical devices in wilderness. Hiking only.
